Free mental health workshops for journalists
Headlines Network, a network aiming to create connections and drive conversations towards improving mental health in the media and communications industries, is partnering with Google News Initiative to launch a series of free interactive workshops for journalists across the UK media industry.
Many of the challenges that impacted the mental health of journalists in the months and years before the global pandemic have been exacerbated by Covid-19.
As part of its efforts to promote mental health in the media, the Headlines Network will be offering in late 2021 free interactive workshops to journalists from across the UK industry. These virtual sessions will be offered to four groups of journalists – early career, new managers, mid-career journalists and senior leadership.
Each cohort will have four workshops, dealing with different issues relating to mental health and stress.
Matt Cooke, Head of Google News Lab, part of the Google News Initiative, said: ‘As a former journalist, I’m familiar with some of the unique challenges faced by those working in the industry, such as long hours and working to tight deadlines. We’re supporting the Headlines Network to provide a safe space for journalists to discuss mental health, their wellbeing and to share best practices. We hope participants will explore themes, tips and digital tools to help both at home and in the newsroom.’
