Facebook to show if users are vaccinated

Facebook wants to put pressure on all its users to get the Covid vaccine. The company has now introduced a kind of vaccine stamp that the ones vaccinated should have on their profile. Facebook says it will weekly summarize who are using the vaccine stamp. The stamp has been tested in the UK where in a few weeks, a quarter of people on Facebook in the UK had seen a friend or family member use the vaccine profile frame.

“Research shows that social norms can have a major impact on people’s attitudes and behaviours when it comes to their health”, Facebook said in a blog post.

”Today, we’re launching new COVID-19 vaccine profile frames on Facebook that we developed in collaboration with the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The new frames will let you share your support for COVID-19 vaccines and see that others you respect and care about are doing the same.”

”In the coming weeks, we’ll show you a summary in your News Feed of your friends, family members and people you follow who are using the COVID-19 vaccine profile frames.”

Facebook’s idea is to promote vaccination by showing who’s got it in a similar way as the EU idea about “vaccination passport” that has been welcomed by many but also criticized as a was of shaming those who are not vaccinated.
