Brooke Baldwin's Huddle

Brooke Baldwin’s “Huddle” reveals how women can unlock their collective power

In her first book “Huddle: How Women Unlock Their Collective Power,” former longtime CNN news anchor Brooke Baldwin debuts with a remarkable take on the power women can possess when they join forces.

Baldwin explores the phenomenon of “huddling”: when women lean on one another – in politics, Hollywood, activism, the arts, sports, and friendships – to provide each other support, empowerment, inspiration, and the strength to solve problems or enact meaningful change.

In the book, Baldwin defines a huddle as “a moment that brings women together in any time or place – whether on the frontlines of a public protest or in a quiet church basement – to provide each other with support, empowerment, inspiration, and the strength to solve problems or enact meaningful change.”

So, what happens when women huddle? Baldwin uncovers how huddling can be the “secret sauce” that makes many things possible for women: success in the workplace, effective grassroots change, confidence in girlhood, and a better physical and mental health profile in adulthood.

Huddle: How Women Unlock Their Collective Power

Through a mix of journalism and personal narrative, she takes readers beyond the big headline-making huddles from recent years (such as the Women’s March, #MeToo, Times Up, and the record number of women running for public office) and embeds herself in groups of women of all ages, races, religions and socio-economic backgrounds who are banding together in America.

In “Huddle: How Women Unlock Their Collective Power” you’ll read about dynamic and supportive groups of women and girls, including Karlie Kloss’s coding camp for girls, Reese Witherspoon’s Filmmaker Lab for Girls, groups of congresswomen and judges, and an all-female writers room in Hollywood, the co-founders of Black Lives Matter, Indigenous women saving the planet, mothers fighting to reform gun laws, athletes agitating for equal pay, and teachers rallying to improve their working conditions.

Baldwin also speaks to trusted pioneers such as Gloria Steinem and Madeleine Albright as well as contemporary trailblazers like Stacey Abrams and Megan Rapinoe.

Explaining what motivated her to write the book, she says: “I’ve covered everything from mass shootings to terror attacks, but in 2017 after I spent back-to-back days covering the Trump Inauguration and the Women’s March, I decided to start paying more attention to American women. They were joining forces and supporting one another in ways I’d never witnessed in my entire 20-year career.”

This book will take you into a journey to find out how women can support each other better and how that support can help us all achieve great things.
