Murdoch launching new British TV channel
Rupert Murdoch’s News UK is launching a new channel, talkTV, early next year, the British company announced. It will be on air less than a year after after GB News launched in June saying the channel would be less London-centered and offer opinion and debate. GB News Chairman and lead presenter, Andrew Neil, recently announced his resignation.
TalkTV will be available on linear and internet television and will feature presenters from News UK´s radio stations talkRADIO, talkSPORT, Virgin Radio and Times Radio, and newspapers The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times.
“Everyone in the UK will be able to access the channel, live or on-demand, either on their television or on any personal device,” News UK said in a statement.
“talkTV will offer a mix of programming from News UK’s stable of household brands. There will be proper hourly news bulletins, sports and entertainment shows as well as current affairs, debate, opinion and documentaries.”
Rebekah Brooks, Chief Executive of News UK, said talkTV will be taking advantage of modern technology and produce high quality shows at low cost.
Scott Taunton, CEO of News UK Broadcasting, will be leading the launch.
Murdoch also announced that his US company News Corp has hired controversial British journalist and broadcaster, Piers Morgan, who will work with talkTV, FOX in the US and as newspaper columnist.
