Murdoch’s competitors telling the story about the family’s power
The Rupert Murdoch family is one of the world’s most influential media owners and now their competitors are making a documentary about them. CNN+ announced that it will premiere a new documentary series, The Murdochs: Empire of Influence, produced with The New York Times and Left/Right.
The streaming subscription service CNN+ is set to launch in the spring. The Murdoch documentary is based on New York Times Magazine articles How Rupert Murdoch’s Empire and Influence Remade the World written by Jonathan Mahler and Jim Rutenberg.
“This CNN Original Series explores the legacy of media mogul Rupert Murdoch and the dynasty he built. Featuring exclusive reporting from The New York Times, interviews with people who worked inside the Murdoch companies, and decades of rich archival footage, this six-part series goes behind the scenes of the improbable rise of a media tycoon, his outsized influence around the globe, and the intense succession battle between his children over who will inherit his throne”, CNN said in a statement.
Executive producers are Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver, and Erica Sashin for Left/Right; Sam Dolnick and Kathleen Lingo for The New York Times; and Amy Entelis and Lyle Gamm for CNN Original Series.
Journalists Jonathan Mahler and Jim Rutenberg of The New York Times serve as consulting producers for the series.
