Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe allowed to leave Iran

After six years in Iran, most of the time in jail, Thomson Reuters Foundation´s Nazanin Zaghari -Ratcliffe has been released and allowed to return to her family in London. She was released together with Anousheh Ashouri who also has British Iranian double citizenship.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe had together with her daughter visited family in Iran and was arrested when she was leaving the country accused of plotting to topple the Iranian government. She was sentenced to jail but was later allowed to be in house arrest at her parents´ home.

British Foreign Secreary, Liz Truss, announced that Britain has paid a historic dept owned to Iran relating to military equipment. She also confirmed the release of the two British-Iranian dual nationals.

Thomson Reuters Foundation, where Zaghari-Ratcliffe is a project manager, on its website confirmed the release saying she has been one of many used as political pawns.
