Incubator for Media Education and Development – iMEdD
Mission
iMEdD is a nonprofit organization founded in 2018 with exclusive support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). Its mission is to support and promote transparency, credibility and independence in journalism on the grounds of securing meritocracy and excellence in the field.
The organization is the outcome of acknowledging a worldwide crisis in journalism, manifested in lack of trust in traditional media and their “replacement” by social media. The danger in this trend is that as the journalistic crosscheck of information is lost, so is the reliability of journalists. Journalists who earn broad trust have the potential to inform society and empower individuals to create social change.
Consequently, our goal is to build the hub of a new age of journalism and a strong community of independent media professionals within a welcoming space that embraces synergies and the development of ideas and new endeavors leveraging the most up-to-date technology. The organization follows international standards and works closely with the local and global academic community as well as other similar international organizations and high-profile professionals worldwide. The venture started with two directions, the ideas Zone and the incubator, and four more were added: the Lab, the Bridge, Inside the Box and Out of the Box.
The space
Our 500-square-meter state-of-the-art facility in the city center combines fully equipped open office space, an interactive and innovative room for our workshops and events, three highly equipped meeting rooms, a cozy lounge area, an editing suite and sound recording booth with the most cutting-edge equipment.
