Women Leading in AI
Artificial Intelligence is changing the world. And yet, still too often, the conversations are dominated by men, whether it is creating the algorithms that support the day to day uses of AI, or discussing the politics of this fast changing world.
This is why Women Leading in AI is bringing female thinkers, scientists, academics, businesswomen, politicians to discuss the future of AI – the ethics, bias and governance framework as well as opportunities and challenges for the future.
The WLinAI network was founded by Ivana Bartoletti, Dr. Allison Gardner and Reema Patel. The network launched in May 2018 at the London School of Economics with our keynote speakers Prof. Joanna Bryson and Seema Malhotra MP.
The purpose of the group is to be a global ‘think tank’ for women in AI with the aim to address the bias that can occur within algorithms due to a lack of diversity and inclusivity within the field of Artificial Intelligence. They particularly focus on the good governance of AI as a means to ensure that the changes in society likely to occur in the 4th industrial revolution will be of benefit to all people and not further embed societal prejudice in our systems.
The network also promotes opportunities for women to support other women and men who support women in this field. Leading women in AI are able to share their work in a forum that is relaxed and supportive. They are working to elevate the voices and representation of women in the industry, provide a space for honest discussion and to encourage women to enter the field. The audience is global and spans government, the public and private sector, entrepreneurs, academic, graduates as well as individuals who have an interest in AI.
Their goals are as follows:
- To create a network of diverse women in AI (including men who are supportive of women)
- To promote fairness and equality and remove the bias in AI
- To share with each other on the fascinating developments in AI
- To influence global politicians in AI
