News Media Europe appointing new chair

Victoria Svanberg, chairman of Swedish publishing group NWT Media, has been appointed President of News Media Europe. She takes over from Fernando de Yarza, who presided the association for six years.

“As President of News Media Europe I am keen to work with Europe’s news publisher to promote freedom of the press in Europe and beyond, and to build a sustainable future of our industry, while ensuring that the value of content is properly protected,” she said in a statement.

The association also appointed Mart Raudsaar (Postimees, Estonia) and Paloma de Yarza (Heraldo de Aragón, Spain) as Vice Presidents. Outgoing Vice President Guy Black will be News Media Europe’s Media Freedom Ambassador.

News Media Europe (NME) represents more than 2500 European news brands in print or online, and on radio and tv.

Victoria Svanberg is Chair of the Swedish Media Publishers’ Association and of the group NWT Media and has board experience from several of Sweden’s and Norway’s media houses like Schibsted Media Norway and Polaris Media.
