Gucci court case to stop fake products on Facebook
Gucci and Facebook have filed a joint lawsuit against the head of an international counterfeiting business. The companies are taking a US individual to court for infringement of Gucci’s intellectual property rights and breach of Facebook’s and Instagram’s terms.
The defendant is using multiple Facebook and Instagram accounts to evade Facebook’s enforcement efforts and continue to promote the sale of counterfeit Gucci products, the company’s say.
Facebook and Instagram’s terms prohibit IP infringement, including the sale or promotion of counterfeit products.
”Cross-industry collaboration with brands like Gucci is critical to this type of enforcement action and to Facebook’s broader efforts to tackle counterfeits on its services”, Jessica Romero, Director of Platform Enforcement & Litigation and Mark Fiore, Director & Associate General Counsel, IP, wrote in a blog post.
“This lawsuit — the first of its kind for Facebook and Gucci — is a natural next step in the progression of our partnership.”
“This lawsuit is a clear signal to those who would seek to engage in similar abuses that this behaviour will not be tolerated.”
