Editor and Nobel Prize winner Dmitry Muratov attacked

Dmitry Muratov, a voice fighting for freedom of expression, editor of newspaper Novaya Gazeta and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has been attacked by a person pouring acid red paint over him on a train.

The male attacker shouted, “Muratov, this is for our boys”, Muratov tweeted. My eyes are burning terribly, Muratov said.

Muratov recently announced that his newspaper will suspend publishing until the war in Ukraine is ended. This decision was taken after a second warning from the Russian authorities, The newspaper had earlier stopped reporting about the war as authorities had threatened the newspaper that insisted on calling the war in Ukraine a “war” despite authorities saying this word could not be used to descrive “the special military operation”.
