Epic’s Fortnight to be on Microsoft’s new store

The turmoil around Epic Games’ Fortnight took a new turn when Microsoft announced that the company’s new store will include Fortnight via search or browsing. Microsoft said it will not take a commission through the store if the game maker has its own payment system. Using an external payment system is the main issue in Epic’s court case against Apple’s app store.

Epic included its own payment system when the company launched Fortnight challenging Apple’s rule that all sales must be via its own app store payment system meaning the company also can take a cut from all sales.

The court recently ruled that Apple must allow external payment systems. However, Epic said it will anyway appeal as the court also said that Apple’s store cannot be described as a monopoly which Epic says it is.

Apple has since, according to Epic, informed that the Epic game will not be allowed on Apple’s app store while the court case is ongoing which could be for years as Epic has appealed.

The new Microsoft Store is expected to be available for users together with the new Windows 11 on October 5 and some months later for Windows 10 users.
