Google paying Italian publishers
A number of Italian publishers have signed agreement to contribute content to Google News Showcase, Google announced.
Google News Showcase is a global initiative meant to pay some publishers for their content. The project is controversial as Google is choosing which publishers to pay for content while for instance the updated European Union copyright directive aims at getting all publishers compensated for big tech platforms using their content in for instance search results.
The Italian agreement comprises RCS Mediagroup, financial daily Il Sole 24 ore, Caltagirone editore and Monrif.
