Twitter launching subscription service

How to make people pay for your tweets

Twitter launched a feature called “super follows” allowing creators to earn money by sharing some content only with subscribers who pay a monthly fee. The launching follows earlier introduced features for payments like tipping content creators. Twitter also launched a security option allowing users to temporarily block some tweets.

Through Super Follows, people can set a monthly subscription of $2.99, $4.99 or $9.99 to monetize content, Twitter said in a blog post. “We’re just getting started and so for now, a small group within the US who applied a can set up a Super Follows subscription.”

To start with, only iOS users in the US and Canada can Super Follow select accounts. The feature will be introduced for iOS-users globally in the next few weeks with Android and twitter.com coming soon, the company said.

“Unwelcome Tweets and noise can get in the way of conversations on Twitter, so we’re introducing Safety Mode, a new feature that aims to reduce disruptive interactions”, Apple also announced. The feature will first be tested by a small feedback group on iOS, Android and Twitter.com.

The feature temporarily blocks accounts for seven days for using potentially harmful language — such as insults or hateful remarks — or sending repetitive and uninvited replies or mentions. When the feature is turned on, systems will assess the likelihood of a negative engagement by considering both the Tweet’s content and the relationship between the Tweet author and replier.

Twitter said technology takes existing relationships into account, so accounts you follow or frequently interact with will not be autoblocked.
