Russia says Google and Apple must stop Alexei Navalny’s app
Russian media authority Roskomnadzor (RKN) has required that Apple and Google remove jailed Kremlin kritic Alexei Navalny’s app “Navalny” from their services App Store and Google Play, “as it is used to promote the activities of organizations recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation”, Russian news agency Interfax reports.
Navalny’s supporters have used the app to publish both news and blogs when authorities have blocked their own websites.
The media authority referred to a Russian court ruling saying Navalny’s anti-corruption foundation is an extremist organisation and banned it.
