Stiff competition on home entertainment market
The competition on the European home entertainment market is getting stiffer. Star, Disney Plus´ channel targeting older audiences on international markets, has been launched in Western Europe with Eastern Europe to follow later this year. Simultaneously with the West European launch, the service was introduced in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
Disney Plus was launched as a family-friendly streaming service in November last year. Disney is known for its programming for a younger audience but the company has also films for grown up audiences via its acquisition of 21st Century Fox and from ABS.
Disney says the company in January had more than 146 million subscribers in total of its streaming services and of these 94.9 million were subscribing to Disney Plus.
In Euro countries the service will cost 8.99 per month or 89.90 for a year.
