Twitter confirms Musk will get his Edit Button
Facebook and Instagram already have it but the news is that now also Twitter will test it: An Edit Button – a possibility to edit your tweets after they have been sent. Twitter has confirmed that it soon will start testing such a feature with users of its subscription service Twitter Blue saying they have been planning for it since long but Twitter´s new biggest shareholder, Tesla´s Elon Musk, will probably get the credit for making Twitter start testing it.
Prior to becoming Twitter´s biggest shareholder, Musk had started another of his spectacular polls among his more than 80 million followers on Twitter asking if they wanted an Edit Button.
The Edit Button-tests were announced the same day the news broke that Musk now has more than 9% of the shares in Twitter with CEO Parag Agrawal announcing Musk would be invited to be a member of the company´s board of directors.
The opting of editing the tweets has since long been a discussion. The arguments have been that you should be able to correct typos and misspellings etc. However, the issue will be how much users will be able to edit their tweets after they have been sent and how much of the original tweet will be available. Some have said you should be able to change your mind and change a tweet while others have argued you should not be able to later moderate what you originally said.
Jay Sullivan, Twitter´s vice president of consumer product, said it had been the most requested Twitter feature for many years adding that the company is exploring how to build the feature “in a safe manner”.
“Without things like time limits, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, Edit could be misused to alter the record of the public conversation. Protecting the integrity of that public conversation is our top priority when we approach this work”, he said.
When it was announced that Musk had become the company´s biggest share holder and Parag Agrawal invited him to become a member of the board, Musk said he was “looking forward to working with Parag & Twitter board to make significant improvements to Twitter in coming months”.
He could now claim the credit for getting the tests started the same day he was invited to the board of directors.
