Two charged with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee in Derry

Two men on Northern Ireland have been charged with the murder of 29-year-old journalist Lyra McKee. She was shot in April 2019 when she was covering riots in the Creggan area of Derry.

She wrote for several publications about the consequences of the so called Troubles, violent conflicts, basically about Northern Irelands status, that lasted for decades until the Good Friday agreement in 1998 but still affecting the society and politics. She also served as an editor for Mediagazer, a news website.

The charged men, aged 21 and 33, have also been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, riot, possession of petrol bombs, throwing petrol bombs and arson. The 33-year-old has also been charged with robbery, BBC reports.

A third man, aged 20, has been charged with riot, possession of petrol bombs and throwing petrol bombs.
