What users really read on Facebook
The top-viewed news domains in Facebook account only for 0.31% of all content views on Facebook’s News Feed. Of those outlets, mainstream media dominate by views, according to a report on prioritized content published by Facebook.
The company has in discussions about paying publishers for using their content on the platform argued that news media content is of limited interest for its users with publisher arguing that their news content is used in Facebook’s very profitable advertising business.
57% of posts that users see is from their family and friends. The company said this is in line with changes the company has made so that content from friends and family makes up a larger portion of Facebook’s News Feed.
Fewer than 13% of content views were on posts with links.
Many of the most-viewed Pages focused on sharing content about pets, cooking, family, and relatable viral content, the report says.
