Your dislikes will not be counted on YouTube anymore
YouTube announced that they are hiding the number of dislikes on YouTube video: while the dislike button will still be available for the users, the number of dislikes will be hidden.
The YouTube team claims they are doing this to prevent harassment against the creators and promote respectful interactions between creators and viewers; the company seems to believe that this will reduce dislike attacks — where people work to drive up the number of dislikes on a creator’s videos.
The number of dislikes will still be visible to the creators (so that they can understand the performance of their videos) and the users will still be able to ‘dislike’ a video to get it out of their feed and improve the offerings.
‘We want to create an inclusive and respectful environment where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves’, the YouTube announcement goes.
The company did not give any data on how common or intense those ‘dislike’ attacks where against creators, or whether there are other commercial reasons also for doing so.
