Bezos getting new role at Amazon
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is stepping down as CEO of Amazon this summer. He will instead serve as the company´s executive chair. Amazon´s head of cloud computing , Andy Jassy, will take over as CEO.
Bezos, owner of The Washington Post, was one of the founders of Amazon 30 years ago that has since developed from an online book seller to one of the world´s biggest internet market places for products and services. The company is one of few that have benefited from the pandemic as online shopping has been booming when people isolate to avoid the virus. And over the years since the modest start, Bezos himself has become on of the world´s richest men.
But there has also been criticism with regulators saying Amazon´s dominance in online shopping limits competition to the disadvantage of consumers and workers have pushed for better virus protection and work conditions during the pandemic.
In a blog post to staff, Bezos said he will focus on new products and early initiatives being developed. He said he would also have more time for side projects including the space exploration company Blue Origin.
