Big tech lining up with Joe Biden to fight cyberattacks

Big tech companies lined up with President Joe Biden in a discussion on how to increase cyber security. Big tech announced investments in fighting cyberattacks at the earlier announced meeting with Biden and his security people like National Cybersecurity Director Chris Inglis and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

Biden had invited them to the White House after the recent ransom attacks on companies leading to disturbances in delivery of oil and meat and the closure of shops that had their payment systems attacked.

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella on LinkedIn announced his company will invest USD 20 billion over five years, a four-fold increase from current rates, to speed up its cyber security work, and make available USD 150 million in technical services to help federal, state and local governments to help keep their security systems up to date.

Google said it would allocate USD10 billion to cybersecurity over the next five years.

IBM said it will train more than 150 000 people in cybersecurity skills over three years. The company will partner with historically black colleges and universities to create a more diverse cyber workforce.
