Google’s self-designed Tensor chips will power its next smartphones
Google announced that Pixel phones launching this fall will be powered by Tensor, the company´s first custom-built SoC (System on a Chip) specifically for Pixel phones.
To start with, Tensor will be used for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones, with the company saying this means increased security, among other advantages.
”AI is the future of our innovation work, but the problem is we’ve run into computing limitations that prevented us from fully pursuing our mission. So we set about building a technology platform built for mobile that enabled us to bring our most innovative AI and machine learning (ML) to our Pixel users”, the company said in a blog post.
Google said that Tensor offers a completely revamped camera system, speech recognition and much more.
