Google fined by Italian competition authority

Italian authority fines Google for abusing dominant position

In another focus on the dominance of the big players’ app stores, Italian competition authority concludes that Google has abused the dominant position of its Android mobile operating system and the app store Google Play.

The authority is fining Google Euro 102 million.

“Through Android and the app store Google Play, Google has a dominant position which allows it to control the reach app developers have on final users,” the authority said.

Google has blocked an electric vehicle services app by company Enel X from the app store and the authority said this is compromising Enel X’s efforts to build up a user base. The authority also said this has a negative effect on developing e-mobility and the spreading of electric vehicles.
