Musk and Zuckerberg promoting Clubhouse

The booming social media audio app Clubhouse has been downloaded 8 million times globally with not more than 2.6 million in the US, according to analytics firm App Annie.  Clubhouse participation is on invitation only and it is still in prelaunch mode.

Celebrities like Tesla´s Elon Musk and Facebook´s Mark Zuckerberg have participated in discussions in Clubhouse and further increased the interest.

Annie says Clubhouse grew from 3.5 million global downloads as of February 1 to 8.1 million by February 16. As you need an invitation to join, it is not for sure that all of them really can use the app. Some probably either have a Clubhouse invite or hope to get one from someone who has been invited. Each invited can invite only one more.

Clubhouse has said it does not publish user numbers.

Annie said other social audio apps also have gained mentioning Dizhua, Tiya and Yalla, which have attracted users in China, the US, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Dizhua has 174,000 downloads; Tiya has 6 million; and Yalla has 34.5 million.
