One of the oldest internet services closing down

One of the oldest Q&A platforms on the internet is on its way out. Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4, the company announced. Yahoo Answers website will from that day start redirecting to the Yahoo homepage. The Q&A has been operating since 2005.

The company said that Yahoo Answers “has become less popular over the years” and that the company “decided to shift our resources away” from the product to “focus on products that better serve our members.”

Questions at Yahoo Answers have always been very diverse. The day the closing was announced the three first questions were: “I am afraid my home loan will now get denied?”; “Is Donald Trump in Denial?”; “Why do Donald Trump and Republicans hate minorities and love white supremacists?”

Users will have until June 30 to request their data. After that it will be inaccessible. That includes “all user-generated content including your Questions list, Questions, Answers list, Answers, and any images,” Yahoo says, but “you won’t be able to download other users’ content, questions, or answers.”

From April 20, no more questions can be asked, the Verizon Media Group-owned company said.
