Salesforce finalizing Slack acquisition

Salesforce and Slack finalizing USD 27.7 billion deal

Cloud computing giant Salesforce has quietly in the middle of the holiday season finalized its USD 27.7 billion acquisition of team communication platform Slack. The planned deal was first announced some eight months ago.

Salesforce said it plans to combine Slack with Salesforce Customer 360, a customer data platform it introduced three years ago.

Analysts talked about the possibility for workflow automation between Slack and Salesforce by streamlining finding and updating data on customer relation management.

Finalizing the deal, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff in a prepared statement said that “Together we’ll define the future of enterprise software, creating the digital HQ that enables every organization to deliver customer and employee success from anywhere.”

“We’ve learned over the past year that the workplace isn’t snapping back to the way it was,” said Bret Taylor, Chief Operating Officer of Salesforce. “Together, Slack and Salesforce Customer 360 will give every company in the world a single source of truth for their business and a single platform for connecting employees, customers, and partners with each other and the apps they use every day.”

“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rethink and reshape how and where we work,” said Stewart Butterfield, Slack CEO and Co-Founder. “Salesforce and Slack are uniquely positioned to lead this historic shift to a digital-first world.”

Slack will continue to operate under the Slack brand and will continue to be led by Stewart Butterfield.

Cloud-based software company Salesforce is headquartered in San Francisco. It was founded in 1999 and provides customer relationship management service and also provides a complementary suite of enterprise applications focused on customer service, marketing automation, analytics, and application development.

Slack is a business communication platform developed by American software company Slack Technologies. It offers chat rooms organized by topic, private groups, and direct messaging.
