Twitter to fight misleading vaccine information

Twitter will label tweets with potentially misleading information about COVID-19 vaccines, and introduce a strike system that can lead to permanent account suspension, the company announced joining for instance Facebook and YouTube that have announced action against misleading vaccine information.

Our goal with these product interventions is to provide people with additional context and authoritative information about COVID-19,” the company said in a blog.

”As the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines expands, people continue to turn to Twitter to discuss what’s happening and find the latest authoritative public health information.”

Twitter says the company believes the strike system will help to educate people on why certain content breaks the rules and give them the opportunity to further consider their behaviour and their impact on the public conversation.
