Yahoo following LinkedIn leaving China

Yahoo announced that it has stopped offering its service in mainland China referring to that the country has “increasingly challenging business and legal environment”. Microsoft-owned LinkedIn also recently announced that it is closing its normal service in China with a similar explanation.

In a statement Yahoo said: “Yahoo remains committed to the rights of our users and a free and open internet. We thank our users for their support.”

LinkedIn said it was leaving mainland China as it was “facing a significantly more challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements in China. Given this, we’ve made the decision to sunset the current localized version of LinkedIn, which is how people in China access LinkedIn’s global social media platform, later this year.”

The company said it would later this year, launch InJobs, a new, standalone jobs application for China.

China has over last months imposed various forms of restrictions on the country´s own big tech companies.
