Berlin festival´s gender-neutral acting prize

From the big film and TV show festivals we are used to read who got the award for best male role and best female role. The Berlin Film Festival, a couple of days prior to the International Women´s Day, awarded its first ever gender-neutral acting prize to German actress Maren Eggert. The new award means female and male actors compete in the same category.

Eggert got the ward for her performance as museum researcher in sci-fi comedy I´s Your Man.

Making the wards gender-neutral has been both greeted as a step forward and had negative reactions – especially as it could half the number Oscars and other awards.

The festival´s top awardthe Golden Bear – for best film – went to Radu Jude for the Romanian comedy Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn.
