Media conference launching guide on investigative journalism
A website serving as a comprehensive, expert guide on Investigating Organized Crime has been launched by the 12th Global Investigative Journalism Conference.
The GIJC says it is one of four major, guides and tools to be launched. They include Guide to Fact-Checking Investigative Stories, a resource for building video teams in small newsrooms, and the Journalist Security Assessment Tool, a self-assessment safety tool.
“Despite all challenges -physical attacks, growing surveillance, intimidation, legal harassment, and online trolling, especially toward our female colleagues- investigative journalism is alive and well, and we’re growing,” David E. Kaplan, the organization’s executive director, said when opening the conference declared.
The organization said that the recent award of the Nobel Peace Prize to two investigative editors highlights ”that the world is now counting on investigative journalists to help make a stand for democratic accountability, and that these same journalists are under unprecedented attack — for that same reason.”
GIJC21 reported that 1,800 editors, reporters, and civil society watchdogs from 148 countries had registered for the online, five-day event on investigative journalism.
