Netflix confirmed that it will introduce a lower priced advertising supported subscription plan in addition to the adds-free version. Global advertising partner will be Microsoft. When Netflix in April announced that it for the first time in a decade had lost subscribers, management said the company was re-considering its earlier statement of being ads free. The company noted cancelations of subscriptions when spiking inflation and increasing interest rates in many counties were leading to higher household costs.
“The decline of media freedom and the rise in threats to the safety of journalists is a worldwide trend, most sharply evident in backsliding democracies and recalcitrant totalitarian States,” says a report by Irene Khan, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression. “The consequences for human rights, democracy, public participation and development are worrying”.
