Apple’s privacy rules to be enforced within weeks
Apple will within coming weeks start implementing earlier announced and controversial privacy notification rules. Facebook and other advertisers have complained that the rules will hurt sales.
When an iPhone user upgrades to the iOS 14.5 operating system, a pop-up will inform that for specific functionalities, the user has to agree to share data. Apple argues this will improve privacy while Facebook and other advertisers fear that so many will refuse permission that it will have a negative impact on advertising sales.
Apple said the notices will be mandatory when its iOS 14.5 operating system becomes available. No specific date was mentioned. The change was announced a year ago.
Apps must ask permission before the app tracks the user´s activities “across other companies’ apps and websites.”
Apple has promised to provide developers with alternative advertising tools that will provide information about how the ads are performing but without giving information on an individual level.
