Asos offers paid leave to staff

Menopause and pregnancy loss paid leave for Asos employees

Οnline fashion retailer Asos has announced several new policies aimed at supporting its employees who are “going through health-related life events,” like menopause, fertility issues and pregnancy loss.

“This new policy framework will enable ASOSers to take the time away from work that they need, while also increasing awareness of the impact of such common life events, and breaking down the taboos around these issues and taking time off when it is needed,” the company said.

New policies include flexible work and taking time off at short notice for staff going through the menopause, as well as paid leave for staff who have experienced a pregnancy loss or are undergoing fertility treatment.

Asos said it will allow employees who are dealing with pregnancy loss, including miscarriages and abortions, to take 10 days of paid leave, with the policy also applying to the partners of those who were pregnant and for surrogate pregnancies. For employees who are undergoing fertility treatment, or are supporting a partner who is doing so, Asos will provide an additional five days paid leave per cycle.

To support all individuals who are going through the menopause, recognising that it is not just cisgender women, ASOS is offering the ability to work flexibly, take short notice leave or request to work from home.

The company highlighted that these new policies are gender neutral, and apply to everyone regardless of who they are or their circumstances. As Nick Beighton, CEO at Asos, said, “all of us face unexpected challenges in life, and sometimes these can create very difficult circumstances which mean we need to step away from or change how we work.”
