Meta accepting staff working only remote

Meta says it for the first time is hiring individuals who are fully remote and working from locations where the company does not have offices and that this is increasing the diversity of candidates and workforce. 75% of staff is working from multiple locations. With CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s visions about the future, the company is stressing its ambition to develop a metaverse with diversity and inclusion from the start.

The company’s 2022 diversity report shows that the company still is far from gender balance with a work force comprising 62.9% men and 37.1% women. In leadership positions, 63.3% are men and 36.7% women. 74.2% of technicians are men and 25.8% ar3e women.

The company says that in the past year, candidates who accepted remote job offers were more often underrepresented people. Since 2019, the number of women in the global workforce has doubled.

The company stresses its approach to remote working saying that working at Meta isn’t limited by geography — approximately 75% of teams at Meta are working across multiple locations.

From the diversity report:

  • US candidates who accepted remote job offers were substantially more likely to be Black, Hispanic, Native American, Alaskan Native, Pacific Islander, veterans and/or people with disabilities.
  • Globally, candidates who accepted remote job offers were more likely to be women.
  • “We’re collaborating with diverse companies, developers, experts and policymakers to build the metaverse — the next generation of digital experiences — with diversity, equity and inclusion from the start.”
  • “We’re investing $150 million through Meta Immersive Learningand working with partners to help diverse creators develop skills in AR, VR and immersive media. This is part of our greater effort to help creators with a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives make a living in the metaverse.”
  • The number of Black and Hispanic employees in the US has dobled since 2019.
  • The number of women in the global workforce has doubled since 2019.
  • Underrepresented people make up 46.7% of the global workforceup from 45.6% in 2021.
  • Through promotions and hiring, the company says it is on track to achieve (and in some cases exceed) the goal to increase the representation of all people of colour in leadership positions in the US by 30% by 2025.
  • Black employee leadership has increased by 44.1% since 2020.
