After eight months TikTok gets a new CEO
TikTok has appointed a new CEO some eight months after Kevin Mayer left the position when the Chinese-owned company was attacked by the Donald Trump administration. Owner-company ByteDance’s CFO, Shouzi Chew, will be both TikTok CEO and CFO at the parent company.
Before joining ByteDance earlier this year, Chew was an executive at Xiaomi. Vanessa Pappas, who has been serving as interim CEO, will be TikTok COO.
TikTok was attacked last year by the Trump saying it had ties to the Chinese government and banned as a national security threat. The administration put a deadline for ByteDance to sell the US part of the platform. After many discussions with, among others Microsoft, nothing really happened and TikTok is muddling through in the US.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported a study by cybersecurity researchers saying TikTok is not currently a national security threat to the US.
