HBO Max beating Netflix in the US
The fierce competition between home entertainment streaming services means markets and investors pay a lot of attention to first quarter reports to see how users behave during the pandemic and when there is a hope that lockdowns will ease when more and more citizens get vaccinated.
HBO Max reported it has added 2.7 million US subscribers to its streaming service Max during the first quarter prior to the international launch of HBO Max that until now operates its streaming video on-demand only in the US.
Netflix recently reported a US and Canada growth of just 450 000 in the first quarter and a growth of 4 million subscribers internationally to a total of 207.6 million globally.
