New York Times’ digital subscription growth slows to 3-year low
The New York Times Company beat revenue and operating profit estimates, but reported slower growth in its digital subscriptions, in the April-to-June quarter – which is typically considered its weakest.
At the end of June, The Times had 7.9 million total subscribers, with 7.1 million paying for its digital products. The company added 142,000 new digital subscribers – the slowest growth in three years – with 77,000 for the News app and 65,000 for Cooking and Games.
The publisher estimates that it will have 8.5 million paid print and digital subscriptions by the end of 2021.
The NYT reported $93 million in adjusted operating profit on $499 million in revenue, both exceeding investors’ estimates for $73 million in adjusted operating profit on $488 million in sales.
