TikTok and European safety
TikTok has appointed a nine-member Safety Advisory Council for Europe that will overview content moderation policies and privacy. The group will include specialists on mental health and anti-bullying.
The company has earlier appointed similar bodies for content control and policy in the US and Asia.
TikTok’s said its European group comprises academics and members of non-profit bodies specialized in dealing with child abuse, addiction, violent extremism, discrimination and cyber-bullying.
The council will help the company to develop “forward-looking policies” that address current and emerging challenges, TikTok said.
The European Union is investigating TikTok´s data-sharing practices after recent consumer complaints accusing the company of violating GDPR rules about storing of personal information.
