Trump suing Facebook, Twitter and Google
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced he filed lawsuits in the federal court in Florida, against Twitter, Facebook, and Google, on the grounds of silencing conservative viewpoints.
Trump said he would seek restitution and punitive damages, and that he would seek class-action in the suits, meaning it is a group action, but he did not specify who the other members of the class were.
Last month, Facebook’s Oversight Board had announced that Trump’s account would be suspended at least until January 2023 which means he will be without his Facebook account over the national midterm elections in November 2022.
Trump had said at the time “Facebook’s ruling is an insult to the record-setting 75M people, plus many others, who voted for us in the 2020 Rigged Presidential Election. They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this censoring and silencing, and ultimately, we will win. Our Country can’t take this abuse anymore!”
According to a Pew Research Center survey, Americans are split on whether Donald Trump should be barred from social media. Some 49% of US adults say Trump’s accounts should be permanently banned from social media, while some 50% say they should not be.
