A tweet compared to the beauty of Mona Lisa
Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s first ever tweet has now been sold on an online auction for the equivalent of USD 2.9 million to a businessman in Malaysia. The buyer paid in cryptocurrency Ether, the BBC reports.
The tweet, which said “just setting up my twttr,” was first published on March 21, 2006 and was auctioned off by Dorsey for charity.
The buyer is Sina Estavi, CEO of technology firm Bridge Oracle and he bought the tweet as a NTF (nonfungible token), a form of digital certificate that is getting more popular for dealing with digital art.
“This is not just a tweet! I think years later people will realize the true value of this tweet, like the Mona Lisa painting,” the buyer tweeted.
Dorsey said he would convert the revenue to bitcoin and donate them to the Give Directly’s Africa Response fund.
