Zuckerberg to rebrand Facebook

Zuckerberg will rebrand the Facebook company, The Verge says

Facebook is planning to change its company name next week to reflect its focus on building the metaverse, The Verge reveals, referring to a source with direct knowledge of the matter.

An ‘umbrella’ company name will be introduced, so the brandname ‘Facebook’ will not disappear, but the app will be one of the many products (like Instagram, WhatsApp etc), owned by a parent company, much like Google introduced holding company name Alphabet in 2015.

The article refers to Zuckerberg’s ambition to transform Facebook from a social media to a metaverse company, as he was quoted saying in the media last July.

It is likely that the announcement will be made at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28th, by Mark Zuckerberg.

The revelation was of course picked up immediately by all major media outlets, including Reuters and Bloomberg.
