The generative artificial intelligence chatbot hype has probably not yet peaked. A new survey shows 70% of executives say their companies are investigating and exploring possibilities with generative AI. 19% are in pilot or production mode.45% say publicity around ChatGPT has prompted them to increase AI investments. The poll found that 68% of executives believe that the benefits of generative AI outweigh the risks.
Growth in fake content, animosity towards journalists and increased aggressiveness from authorities in many countries explain the precarious situation for media freedom, Reporters Without Borders said on World Press Freedom Day May 3. The environment for journalism is “bad” in seven out of ten countries, and satisfactory in only three out of ten. Norwegian press freedom is ranked first for the seventh year running.
50% of companies expect artificial intelligence to create job growth and 25% expect it to create job losses, a World Economic Forum survey shows. The fastest-growing roles are driven by technology, digitalization and sustainability. AI and Machine Learning Specialists top the list of fast-growing jobs, followed by Sustainability Specialists, Business Intelligence Analysts and Information Security Analysts.
Increasing women’s participation in science and innovation will be a key factor in Europe’s future sustainability and competitiveness, a report from European Patent Office shows. While men continue to dominate patent applications, the share of women inventors has grown steadily since the late 1970s. South Korea and China are leading with more than a quarter of patents filed over the past decade involving women. Across Europe, only 13.2% of patent applications include women.
