The booming introduction of artificial intelligence comes in a year when exceptionally many countries have elections. A majority in the US say they are concerned about the impact of AI on the 2024 presidential campaign. They also express little confidence in big tech companies to prevent misuse of their platforms to influence the election, according to a new survey by Pew Research Centre.
Friends, family and neighbours are the most common source of local news ranking above television, radio and online forums like Facebook groups, according to a new survey. “Americans’ relationship with local news is changing. More are getting news online, and fewer are turning to sources like daily newspapers, However, one thing that has remained consistent is the importance of friends, family and neighbours as sources of local news.”
Using artificial intelligence means a dramatic increase in electricity consumption. Global data centres electricity consumption will more than double between 2023 and 2028 with a five-year CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 19.5% and reaching 857 Terawatt hours (TWh) in 2028, according to a forecast by market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC).
Women and girls are slim in TV-programmes for children. In both new and popular programming, female characters are less likely than male characters to be fat. This means reinforcing the notion that the ideal feminine body type is thin, Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media says in a new report about programs for children ages two to 11. The study is made in the US but relevant also internationally considering the dominance of US-programming.
