Investment in programmatic advertising is expected to increase over the next 12 months and more than 50% in the ad business think connected TV will be a key growth area, according to advertising and marketing association IAB Europe’s report on attitudes to programmatic. 74% of advertisers, 80% of agencies and 68% of publishers are expecting their investment in programmatic advertising to increase over the next 12 months.

Google’s cloud gaming service Stadia is closing after three years of competing with other gaming giants. Stadia vice president and GM, Phil Harrison, says Stadia “hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected so we’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service.” The service will stay open for players until January 18 next year. Google will refund all Stadia hardware purchased through the Google Store as well as all the games and add-on content purchased from the Stadia store.  

Doreen Bogdan-Martin, United States, has been elected Secretary-General of UN organisation International Telecommunication Union (ITU). She will be the first woman to lead the 157 year old organisation that today plays a vital role in the international use of the internet.

Switzerland, the US, Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands are the world’s most-innovative economies, according to WIPO’s 2022 Global Innovation Index. Research and development and other investments continued to boom in 2021 despite the pandemic, but challenges are emerging in translating innovation investments into impact, WIPO says. Among top R&D is ICT and software.

The Association of Online Publishers reports total digital revenue for Q2 2022 was GBP 154.8 million, up by 12.3% from Q2 2021. 50% of respondents report positive growth. “However, AOP board members’ confidence in the industry and their companies has slightly declined, no doubt affected by the wider economic climate”.
