77% of game developers are optimistic and think that the gaming industry will grow significantly this year driven by funding opportunities, strategic acquisitions and fewer studio closures. 90% of gaming studios plan to release at least one new title, according to a report by game service firm Metaplay. This optimism is in line with a recent report from gaming data firm Newzoo that says growth is slowly returning to the global games market despite that global average playtime has been dropping since the first quarter of 2021 when so many were forced to stay at home because of the covid pandemic.
Trust in AI remains a hurdle to more widespread adoption in businesses. Only a third of CEOs have a high degree of trust in embedding the technology into key processes in their company. However, more than half (56%) report that using GenAI has meant efficiency gains in their employees’ time over the last 12 months and one-third saw revenue (32%) increases, consultancy PwC’s annual global CEO survey shows.
For the first time, print circulation and advertising revenues account for less than half of publishers’ total revenues. This underscores a major shift in the industry, as publishers increasingly tap into digital and alternative revenue streams to stabilise their businesses in a rapidly changing media landscape, a trend report from Worlds Association of News Publishers shows. Generative AI platforms is the sector with which publishers’ relationships have improved the most.
Hollywood gender diversity is going in the wrong direction. Women have lost ground relative to men in three of the four key job categories— theatrical film leads, writers, and actors. Among film directors women were treading water, a study based on 2023 from UCLA’s Institute for Research on Labour and Employment shows.
