The wider use of artificial intelligence will affect jobs. Through 2027, generative AI (GenAI) will spawn new roles in software engineering and operations. 80% of the engineering workforce will need to upskill, according to market research firm Gartner. “Building AI-empowered software will demand a new breed of software professional, the AI engineer”, says the company’s analyst Philip Walsh.
Generative AI could add €1.2-1.4 trillion to the EU’s GDP in ten years – the equivalent to an annual growth rate of 8%. To capture the next wave of AI benefits across society, the EU needs to promote innovation, invest in skills and ensure clear rules, according to a study by tech consultancy Implement Consulting Group that partly echoes former EU central banker Mario Draghi’s recent report that is stressing the need for investments to secure EU growth. The study was commissioned by Google which is investing heavily in AI.
The estimated cost of an average data breach is $3.3 million. 41% of businesses see cloud-related threats as the highest cyber threat. 38% say hack-and-leak operations and 35% fear third-party data breaches most, according to consultancy PwC’s global digital trust survey. World Economic Forum has listed the top-10 cyber issues so far this year. Lack of cyber security specialists in one of them.
Investments in innovation are slowing down, a new report on global innovation shows. There is a major softening in leading indicators of future innovative activity, including a reversal of the 2020-2022 boom in innovation investments, WIPO’s (World Intellectual Property Organisation) annual innovation index shows.
Women’s representation Decreasing number of women promoted in D&A and AI at senior levels in data, analytics and artificial intelligence has been decreasing since 2008, according to a new report Career Outlook for Women in Data, Analytics, and AI. “The transformative potential of AI underscores the critical need for diverse perspectives in the field. However, the underrepresentation of women in D&A and AI highlights a significant gap in workforce diversity”, the outlook by consultancy KPMG, diversity network Women Leaders in Data and AI (WLDA.TECH) and research firm Revelio Labs says.
