It is clear that cyber will play a prominent role in major armed conflicts going forward. Iran-linked groups are likely to continue to conduct destructive cyber attacks, particularly in the event of any escalation to the Israel-Hamas war, according to forecasts in a Google report on cybersecurity and the Israel-Hamas war.
More than three quarters of the 99 journalists and media workers who died worldwide in 2023 were killed in the Israel-Gaza war, the Committee to Protect Journalists says in a report. The vast majority (72) were Palestinian journalists killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
The vast majority of influencers violate EU consumer law. Nearly all (97%) of influencers post commercial content but only one in five systematically indicated that their content was advertising, a survey by the EU Commission and consumer authorities in member states plus Norway and Iceland shows. National authorities will now contact them to request that they follow the rules in place.
More women are needed in STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Women make up almost half (49.3%) of total employment but just 29.2% of all STEM workers. TV and films can show role models stimulating girls to go for STEM studies. However, a new survey shows that on-screen, men in STEM still outnumber women in STEM: 38% are women, just up 1% from a study reported in 2017, Geena Davis Institute On Gender in Media says in a report.
