Google launched a new alternative to third party cookies to target advertising since the markets did not accept company’s earlier proposal, called FLoC. The alternative, called Topics, replaces FLoC. Google will close the option of targeting advertising using third party cookies saying this will improve online privacy.
Musician Neil Young and now also singer Joni Mitchell say that they don’t want to have their music on Spotify if the company allows podcast star Joe Rogan to continue having his podcasts on Spotify. They protest against controversial statements on the podcast about the value of mass vaccination against covid.
Apple reported an all-time revenue record of USD 123.9 billion, up 11% year over year for the quarter ending December 31. Microsoft reported revenues of $51.7 billion, increased 20% and operating income of $22.2 billion, increased 24%, for the quarter. The other big three – Amazon, Alphabet and Meta – report in week 5.
The intensive demand for digital and data-driven businesses will probably mean “another supercharged year” for mergers and acquisitions (M&A), consultancy PwC forecasts for 2022.
