Taliban’s abrupt takeover in Afghanistan led to desperate attempts to escape and the international society being worried of effects for freedom and women’s situation. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn all announced actions to protect Afghan citizens’ accounts from being misused by the new rulers. Amnesty International said thousands of Afghans, including academics, journalists civil society activists and women human rights defenders, are at serious risk of Taliban reprisals. A statement defending Afghan women’s and girls’ rights to education and freedom were issued by the UN, EU and US among others.

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a new amended complaint against Facebook in the agency’s ongoing federal antitrust case. The complaint alleges that after repeated failed attempts to develop innovative mobile features for its network, Facebook instead resorted to an illegal buy-or-bury scheme to maintain its dominance.

Hackers of T-Mobile US got access to information about more than 53 million people’s accounts. The data includes addresses, dates of birth and phone numbers of customers. The company said it had no indication that the accessed data contained financial information such as credit card or other payment data.

Facebook has removed more than 20 million messages and more than 3.000 accounts and groups from Facebook and Instagram for repeatedly violating rules against spreading COVID 19 and vaccine information since the pandemic started and until June, Facebook said in a report.

Comcast and ViacomCBS announced that they in 2022 will launch a joint streaming service “SkyShowtime” in more than 20 European markets saying the service will be available in 90 million homes.
